The story alone is one that will appeal to young listeners but the factual information about insects will make this book a choice for inclusion in content units. ... Brown´s glossy illustrations are some of the best I´ve seen. The shading of the insects make them look realistic. After reading the book it is easy to see why Krudwig and Brown have won so many honors. Both the text and illustrations are exceptional. Recommended.

Library Talk

The final image of this counting book is of a multitude of colorful insects atop a cucumber that is blocking the anthill entrance. All of them work together. Alternate pages provide storyline and factual information about the insects. The Spanish version, Sopa de Pepino, translated by Antonio Hernandez Madrigal, is a great companion book.
